Summary The Nurse is responsible for organizing and providing
nursing care in accordance with LAGUNA SHORES MENTAL HEALTH
policies and procedures, as well as applicable statutes and
regulations. The nurse provides community mental health nursing
services which focus on prevention, treatment, education, and
rehabilitation of the physical and mental health of the client. The
Nurse works as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team
(Treatment Team) to develop and implement effective treatment
strategies. Essential Functions Assessment, Treatment and Referral
Administer and document nursing assessments and complete necessary
forms; Provide ongoing observation and assessment of clients;
Recommend treatment that is consistent with clients physical and
psychological status; Work closely with PA or NP to order and
document client medications. Observe clients medications and
document as needed. Assist clients with self-administration of
medications as prescribed and according to LAGUNA SHORES MENTAL
HEALTH policies and procedures; Monitor and evaluate the
effectiveness of clients treatment and document progress;
Administer and read TB tests; Observe medication procedures and
make recommendations for improvement; Provide clients with timely
access to safe, efficient care; Provide technical consultation for
Mental Health Workers; Provide individual nursing counseling as
needed; Provide referrals to appropriate health agencies; and,
Advocacy and support for clients. Education Provide and document
health education services on a variety of topics to clients,
including but not limited to: general health care, mental health
care, medications, management of chronic health conditions, safer
sex practices/guidelines, and nutrition; and, Provide resource
materials to clients and/or provides clients with information
regarding how to access such information. Coordination/Quality of
Care Work with multidisciplinary team; Interact and communicate
with medical personnel and medical/health agencies on behalf of
and/or in conjunction with clients; Make referrals to health
facilities for clients; Keep staff appraised of any potential
client issues; Ensure compliance with LAGUNA SHORES MENTAL HEALTH
policies and procedures, as well as applicable statutes,
regulations, and professional ethical standards/guidelines ;
Collaborate with others to promote compliance, continuity, and
quality of program and client care; Reports any inappropriate
conduct and/or activities to the Program Director and/or
Administrator, and ensures that reporting requirements are met as
required in applicable regulations and statutes. Universal Criteria
Demonstrate respect for clients; Display empathetic understanding
of clients, emotional stability, patience and tact; Behave in an
ethical manner per programs policies and procedures, professional
ethical standards/guidelines, and applicable regulations and
statutes; Adheres to LAGUNA SHORES MENTAL HEALTH policies and
procedures; Attends required trainings; Perform duties in a
self-directed manner; Follow all LAGUNA SHORES MENTAL HEALTH safety
rules; Utilize creative and flexible approaches to accomplish
tasks; and, Utilize customer service approach with clients and
family members. Minimum Qualifications Attainment of at least 18
years of age. Possession of an active and current license as a
Licensed Vocational Nurse, Licensed Physicians Assistant, or
Registered Nurse. Active and current license shall have no history
of disciplinary actions. Evidence of completion of all Continuing
Education required for licensure by the California Board of
Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, the California
Physician Assistant Board, and/or the California Board of
Registered Nursing. Knowledge/Abilities Knowledge of professional
nursing principles and techniques, mental illness, treatment
modalities, medications and their effect upon the client, theories
of personality growth and development, available community
resources, and principles of effective verbal, written and group
communications. Understanding of community health nursing and
psychiatric nursing methods and procedures. Ability to apply
nursing principles and techniques, assess, evaluate, and record
symptoms and behavior, plan, organize, and direct the work of
others; analyze situations accurately and take effective action;
maintain effective working relationships with health professionals
and others; recognize and evaluate mental and emotional status;
plan and evaluate a program of treatment; speak and write
effectively; understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Other Requirements: Valid California Drivers License, clean driving
record, and must possess personal automobile insurance. Hiring is
contingent upon receiving DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance, a
submission of a signed Criminal Record Statement (LIC 508), a TB
test, and clearance of an employment physical. Current First Aid
and CPR certification is preferred prior to employment.
